University of Lodz, English Department.; graduated September 1993 with magister degree (MA equiv.) in American Literature. Thesis topic: "Not in Kansas Anymore: A Guide to the Novels of Jonathan Carroll". Received a grade of A. First book-length critical analysis of Carroll's writing in Poland.

Professional experience

  • 1996-present, Freelance translator. Primary specialization: translation, verification and testing of localized software packages. Selected projects:
    Corel WordPerfect 6.1 for Windows; MS Office 97, MS Office 2000; printer, plotter, fax manuals; Microsoft Encarta Interactive English Learning; Microsoft, Nokia, Autodesk website documents; Carmageddon (game); AutoCAD 2000, AutoCAD 2004; IBM OS/400 (V5R1, V5R2), IBM Tivoli Access Manager 3.9, 4.1.

  • Experience with CAT software: Trados, IBM Translation Manager, Corel Catalyst, Helium, SDLX

  • Translation - secondary specialization: network security, data security, encryption, digital certificates; IT systems in financial services sector and telecommunications.

  • 6 years of experience as interpreter in Information Technology field, including interpreting (consecutive)

  • Since 1993: teaching American Literature and advanced translation courses at The University of Lodz.

  • Since 1991: experience in freelance translation and proof-reading of literary texts (popular novels, short stories), technical (manuals, specifications) and scientific writing (conference papers, articles, books in popular science), film scripts and advertising copies. Also experienced in translation from Polish into English.

  • Work as a translator on a freelance basis for several Polish literary magazines (essays, stories in translation published in: NaGłos, Literatura na Swiecie, bruLion, Tygiel kultury periodicals).

Grants and scholarships

  • Jan-May 1990: completed a semester at the University of Pittsburgh, PA, United States. Critical Writing course completed with a grade of A. Won second prize in the 1989 Composition Program Writing Awards. Placed on the Dean's Honor List for the winter term 1990.
  • Feb.-June 1993: one semester at High School of Translation, Brussels, Belgium. (studied methodology of translation teaching)
  • February 1994: one-month visit at the Institut de Traducteurs, d'Interpretes et de Relations Internationales, Universite des Sciences Humaines de Strasbourg, France
