Oubliette was originally released on October 18, 1999.
Version 2.0 of Oubliette is under development. If you are interested in what new features and improvements are planned, please see this document.
18 Nov 2003 - version 1.9.5:
Fixed a bug which prevented Oubliette from opening .OUB files in some circumstances. I don't quite understand what caused the bug, except that SHGetFileInfo API function doesn't seem to work as documented on every version of Windows.
Updated German translation (thanks, Meise jr.!)
12 Nov 2003 - version 1.9.4:
Fixed a bug where Oubliette would start "invisible" on Windows XP. Because I do not have Windows XP, I could neither verify the bug, nor test the fix. It should work, but if the problem persists, please let me know.
Fixed a bug which prevented Oubliette from opening files passed through the command line.
Oubliette should now correctly associates the .OUB extension with itself. If you do not want this to happens automatically, edit the AutoRegisterFileType setting in oubliette.ini. You can also force Oubliette to rebuild the file type association by starting Oubliette with the -reg command line switch.
Added support for Opera 7 (Search|Find by Browser Location command).
16 May 2003 - version 1.9.2:
Added French language pack, translated by Antoine (http://www.freewarefrance.com ). THanks a lot, Antoine and RNB!
Fixed a bug that would prevent Oubliette from successfully finding text that has been found previously using the Find (Ctrl+F ) function.
Fixed a bug with screen refresh after deleting an account.
06 May 2003 - version 1.9:
This version is identical to 1.8, except that it has built-in support for translations into other languages. Two sample language packs are distributed with Oubliette: US English and Polish. For details on using language packs and making your own translations, please see the file "language packs.txt" in subfolder "Locale". For more information, please see the Localization forum. More language packs will be made available as soon as I receive translations. The latest language pack will be available at http://www.tranglos.com/free/files/oub_langpack.zip.
06 May 2003 - version 1.8:
Added QuickFind toolbar.
All toolbars can now be repositioned or hidden.
F3 key behavior changed: it still repeats the last search as before,
but takes into account the last type of search performed. That it,
whether you used the Find dialog box (Ctrl+F) or the QuickFind
toolbar, you can repeat the last search by pressing F3.
The Find dialog box now maintains a history of search patterns.
However, this is a potential security problem (e.g. if you happen
to search for passwords), so the history is automatically cleared
when Oubliette exits, unless you manually override this in the
configuration file (see below)
Fixed access violation error in the Browse accounts dialog box.
Fixed the semicolon bug in the CSV import procedure.
In the Encrypt file dialog box, added an option to delete the
original file after successful encryption. A simple delete is
used - this is NOT secure file wiping.
New configuration option in the INI file (not settable through the main Options dialog box):
PASSWINONTOP : keeps the file password dialog box on top of all other windows. (Default: YES)
HISTORYCLEARONEXIT : clears searcthe history of search patterns when Oubliette quits. (Default: YES)
HISTORYCOUNT : the number of search history patterns to maintain. (Default: 16)
Several minor or cosmetic bugs fixed.
Some dialog boxes have been redesigned, more of this to come.
Oubliette is now ready for translation. This version 1.8 does not
allow this yet, but a separate version (1.9) will be released very
soon, which can be translated. More information will be forthcoming.
28 Feb 2003 - version 1.7:
The memo has been replaced with an RTF editor working in plain-text mode. (Formatted text will be supported eventually, but not in this version). Hyperlinks in memos are now highlighted and clickable.
Several sorting methods added: accounts can be sorted by name, username, date created, expiry date, or category (see sort commands under the View menu).
Oubliette now allows more than one account to have the same name (previously, Oubliette enforced unique names). Accounts can now be renamed in the main "Edit Account" dialog box. Oubliette still emits a warning if a duplicate name is assigned, but permits the assignment.
Fixed a bug which prevented an account from being renamed if the new name differed only in letter case (e.g. renaming "foo" to "Foo" was not possible).
Maximized state of the main program window and the Browse dialog box is now preserved.
The Browser view now also displays category names.
The Browser view now displays accounts using the current filter.
Fixed problem with opening Oubliette files by double-clicking them when Oubliette was already running.
16 Feb 2003 - version 1.6.5:
Added ability to import data from CSV files (a number of popular password managers can export data in CSV format, which allows you to transfer information from those programs to Oubliette). Please see the Help file for detailed information on importing data.
The Export feature was tweaked to emit correct CSV data so that Oubliette can import the files it has itself exported.
In the Edit Account dialog box, the F7 key toggles between showing the passphrase and obscuring it with asterisks. (For consistency with the main program window.)
Several minor corrections.
25 Jan 2003 - version 1.6:
Help file is finally available. It is not complete, but
it does document in detail all the new features mentioned
below, as well as the functions of all menu commands
and configuration options.
Added function to display the account whose URL matches the
URL of the active web browser (F9). Note this will not
work correctly if the browser has any modal dialog box open,
including password prompts, since browsers do not return
the location via DDE while they are in this state.
Added ability to fill in username/password in HTML forms in web
browsers (activated by configurable hotkeys). The following browsers
are supported: Internet Explorer, Mozilla, Netscape Navigator and Opera.
Please see the new Help file for detailed information.
In the "Edit account" dialog box, press F9 to get the current URL
from web browser.
The Access Passphrase dialog box now restores its last position.
The random passphrase generator has been moved to the Edit Account
dialog box, so that all its options are accessible directly.
Optional "balloon alerts" for silent, non-intrusive notifications
(Windows 2000/XP only)
Double-clicking on URL and Email fields launches the browser
or email client, respectively. (If "Double click to copy"
option is ON, must hold down Ctrl key while double-clicking
to launch URL/Email instead of copying data.)
Double-clicking the first statusbar panel shows the "File information"
dialog box; double-clicking panels 2 and 3 shows the "Change passphrase"
dialog box; double-clicking other panels shows the "Edit account" dialog
box.
Category name for the current account is now displayed in the main
window.
You can now customize not only the names, but also the icons for all
categories. Please see the Help file for detailed information. Note
that if you change the standard icons, all category names and icons
will be stored in the OUB file, in encrypted form.
Added "Filter by categories" button to the toolbar. (Amazing how many
requests I've had for this simple thing!)
Automatic reopening a file that was previously auto-closed (e.g. on
inactivity timeout) is now optional.
Fixed a possible problem with invalid filename on auto-reopen attempt.
Minor changes made to "File information" dialog box
The Options dialog box is now called Preferences and has been reorganized.
11 Jan 2003 - version 1.5.5:
Drag-and-drop for all edit fields. Hold down the Shift key
to begin dragging text. This method is an alternative to
copying data to clipboard.
The "Copy" button on the toolbar, and the Ctrl+C
keyboard shortcut, now copy the text in whatever
edit field is currently active. If no text is selected
in the field, ALL of the field's text is copied to
clipboard. If no field is currently active (focused),
the Passphrase field is copied.
The "Copy" button on the toolbar now has a submenu
of special copy-related commands, which can be used
to copy specific fields, e.g. Username, Passphrase,
both username and passphrase, URL, email, note,
memo or all the fields together.
When all fields are copied ("Copy All" command, Ctrl+Y),
each field is preceded by its name, eg. 'Username: John Doe".
several clipboard protection methods:
ALL fields, including Memo, are now protected
(previously only the Passphrase and Memo fields
were protected)
sets CF_CLIPBOARD_VIEWER_IGNORE flag on copy. The flag
informs applications which may be monitoring clipboard that
they should ignore this piece of data and not intercept it.
(Supported by ClipMate, see: http://www.thornsoft.com/developer_ignore.htm )
optionally break clipboard chain to prevent
clipboard extenders not-compliant with the above
proposal from capturing copied data This is a rather
aggressive tactics, but it is also quite effective.
(Note: works ONLY if Oubliette was started AFTER the
clipboard extender program.)
"Copy on double click" function is now optional.
Option to obscure the Username field with asterisks
The "Filter by categories" dialog box now uses checkboxes
to select or deselect categories (instead of multiselection).
The dialog box is now resizable and remembers its last size
and position.
Clipboard is not automatically cleared if another application
has modified clipboard contents after Oubliette copied data
but before the predefined time elapsed. (That is, Oubliette
only clears the text it has itself placed in clipboard, but
does not accidentally erase data copied from another
application.)
Activation hotkey (Shift+Ctrl+F6 by default) can now be disabled
or changed without restarting Oubliette.
The "Notes" memo in Edit Account dialog box now has the same
context menu as the memo in the main screen.
5 new category icons added
"Edit Account" keyboard shortcut changed from Ctrl+F2 to F2.
Fixed control tab order in edit window
20 December 2002 - Version 1.5.2:
Fixed a bug which caused Oubliette to fail to launch the correct
browser if the browser path specified in Options contained spaces.
30 November 2002 - Version 1.5:
WARNING: version 1.5 introduces a change in .OUB file format.
Files created or saved with version 1.5 or later cannot be opened
by earlier versions of Oubliette. Please backup your existing
version of Oubliette and data files if you think you may want to
revert to a pre-1.5 version.
Interface gets a facelift: optional XP-style menu and toolbar
(using Toolbar2000 by Jordan Russell at http://www.jrsoftware.org/
and TBX add-on by Alex A. Denisov, http://g32.org)
Added a 'Note' field for short, single-line notes. The 'Notes' field
has been renamed to 'Memo'.
Main window and the "Edit account" window are now properly resizeable.
Text copied to clipboard from the Memo also triggers automatic
clipboard clearing, if enabled.
Double-clicking any edit box in the main window copies its contents
to clipboard
Added WordWrap option to the memo panel (right-click menu; Ctrl+W
toggles wordwrap in "Edit account" memo)
Small miscellaneous fixes.
27 February 2002 - Version 1.4:
Added a "Clear clipboard" command to the Tools menu (Ctrl+/)
Added configuration option to automatically clear clipboard
contents N seconds after the text in the "Passphrase" field
was copied to clipboard. By default, the option is turned ON
and clipboard ic clear 60 seconds after the passphrase was copied.
The "Always on Top" option is now preserved across program sessions.
.OUB files can now be open by dragging them from Windows Explorer
and dropping on Oubliette.
When you drag and drop files with extensions other than .OUB,
Oubliette will decrypt them (if the file extension is .OUE), or
encrypt (all other extensions).
Ability to generate random passphrase based on a template.
Options for generating random passphrases have been added to
the Options dialog box ("Random passphrase" tab).
The name of currently open file is displayed in the titlebar.
Tooltips added and fixed in "Options" dialog box.
18 February 2002 - Version 1.3:
Added a random passphrase generator to the "Edit account" dialog box.
11 August 2001 - Version 1.29:
Minor fixes
14 July 2001 - Version 1.28:
Activation hotkey can now be configured in the "Options" dialog box, "Keyboard" tab. However, changes made there will take effect only after Oubliette is closed and restarted.
7 July 2001 - Version 1.27:
If you make a mistake while entering access passphrase, Oubliette will prompt repeatedly until the passphrase is correct or until you click Cancel
Fixed several bugs in "Encrypt / Decrypt File" function (progress bar now behaves correctly; it is possible to abort the process by pressing the ESC key while file is being encrypted or decrypted)
Added 5 new category icons
18 February 2001 - Version 1.25:
If you have set Oubliette to unload the password file when minimized (or when you select the "Hide accounts" command), Oubliette will now automatically prompt you for access passphrase and open the file when you restore it from ther minimized state. The bonus is that if you start Oubliette minimized, it will not bother you for passphrase until you actually click the icon the first time.
Added a few new category icons
Minor internal changes
9 February 2001 - Version 1.24:
Fixed a bug that would cause an Access Violation error on opening the browser window when accounts were in "hidden" state.
26 December 2000 - Version 1.23:
Minor bug fixes; added a few keyboard shortcuts
22 December 2000 - Version 1.22:
Added activation hotkey, so that Oubliette window can be restored and brought to the front when it is minimized to system tray 9or hidden behind other windows). Default hotkey is "Shift+Ctrl+F6". Currently, it can be modified or disabled by manually eduting the INI file (look for "HotKey" and "HotKeyActivate" settings in [OublietteOptions] section.)
Ability to merge two password files (load contents of a file on disk into the file that's currently open)
If Confirm Exit is ON, the exit prompt is skipped if Windows is shutting down.
1 December 2000 - Version 1.21:
When adding a new account, if the name of the new account matches a name of an already existing account, the error message is displayed when it always should have been, i.e. before closing the dialog box. This allows you to change the new account name and add it without having to retype all the information again.
1 November 2000 - Version 1.20:
When there is no text in the Notes tab, the tab is disabled (grayed out). This lets you quickly see if you have any notes for an account without switching to the Notes tab.
31 October 2000 - Version 1.19:
Minor fix in the form resizing routine.
31 July 2000 - Version 1.18:
Added an optional timeout to the dialog box that asks for access passphrase before opening the password file. If the passphrase is not entered before the specified time elapses, the dialog box closes automatically and the file is not opened.
31 July 2000 - Version 1.17:
Minor cosmetic fixes
19 July 2000 - Version 1.15:
Minor fix in the INI file stuff

Main program window can now be horizontally resized. (Vertical resizing is not possible.)
You can now set fonts and colors for the main program display and the "Edit Account" dialog box.
It is now possible to save the password file without a password. (The file is still encrypted with a built-in password. If you choose this option, you will not be prompted for the access password while opening the file. USEFUL ONLY IF YOU STORE THE PASSWORD FILE ON A SECURELY ENCRYPTED DISK!
