New features and changes planned for PhoneDeck 2.0:
|
- General:
- Ability to encrypt the addressbook file with a choice of strong encryption algorithms (IDEA, Blowfish).
- New fields and address management features:
- New standard fields: Maiden name, Spouse, others.
- Ability to use PhoneDeck as a password manager: new "Password" field (where text is, optionally, obscured with asterisks).
- For each addressbook file, ability to define up to 10 custom fields. Users will be able to specify the name and data type for each custom field. These fields will be added to all addresses within the file.
- Data types for custom fields: text, URL, email address, telephone number, attached file, password.
- Ability to add an image to each address and have it displayed within PhoneDeck.
- Ability to define alarms/alerts (visual and aural) for addresses.
- Interface:
- "HTML View": it will be possible to automatially view each address as an HTML page inside the program (Internet Explorer 4.0 or later required). Templates will be used to specify the HTML layout for addresses. It will be possible to navigate through the addressbook using the embedded HTML browser, and to take advantage of standard browser functions, such as copying, printing and saving data. (It will also be possible to turn off the HTML View entirely.)
- Ability to define custom alphabet nodes and specify which ketters should be grouped together (e.g. so that all accented characters would be grouped with the unaccented "base" letter).
- The "Tabbed view" will be removed (with the addition of custom fields, it becomes impractical).
- Files and categories
- Ability to associate each address with more than 1 category.
- Ability to associate addresses with other addresses.
- Ability to create more than 1 alias (shortcut link) to an address.
- Ability to sort addresses by categories.
- Phone dialer:
- The phone dialer window will be non-modal, so that users can continue to work with PhoneDeck while the telephone number is being dialed.
- Other improvements:
- Improvements in "Copy" and "Select and order fields" commands: both will be template-driven, with several presets included and the ability to create new templates.
- Import and export support for VCF files (v-cards).
- Plugin technology for importing and exporting data and exchanging PhoneDeck addresses with other applications.
- Improved printing.
- Open source: Full source code for PhoneDeck 2.0 will be made available once the program goes out of beta.
