PhoneDeck: Release history
PhoneDeck was originally released on July 15, 2000.
I am beginning to design PhoneDeck 2.0. Any further information will be available here; please check this website occasionally.
30 November - version 1.3
- Updated web site URLs and contact info in documentation. (The website is gradually moving to a new domain at www.tranglos.com.)
28 February 2002 - version 1.2:
- Category bug fixed: the category manager was rewritten, and you can now safely add, delete and modify categories without risk of losing the proper links between already existing addresses and categories. Your current category names and assignments will be automatically preserved.
- For real custom fields you'll have to wait until PhoneDeck 2.0, but: For each .DCK file, you now have five custom fields which you can filll with any text. The names of the custom fields can be modified using the "File Properties" dialog box, "Custom fields" tab. This is absolutely the most I can do for now; PhoneDeck's internal design has limitations that make even adding these five custom fields a complicated task. NOTE: These custom fields are NOT supported by the import/export module. Sorry.
- When editing an address, in the Memo field, you can press Ctrl+D to insert current date, and Ctrl+T to insert current time.
23 May 2001:
- Minor changes.
- Auto-Expand option now stays truly off, when off.
- Added: Auto-Collapse option. May be annoying, is not on by default, but I've had requests for this.
- Option to redial phone number when busy (see Options dialog box, "Modem" tab)
- Some configuration settings which could only be changed by editing the INI file have been added to the Options dialog box. As a result, the Help and screenshots are no longer current. Sigh.
- Updated the Importer (version 1.22)
- Version 1.15
15 March 2001:
- Options to open files on diskettes and network drives in read-only mode. (Default is FALSE; you can change the setting by editing the PHONEDECK.INI file). Files on CD-ROM drives are always opened in read-only mode.
- Items in the Quick Dial and Quick Email list are now sorted when the file is opened.
- Version 1.12
24 February 2001:
- FIXED the major bug introduced in version 1.07 which caused random Access Violation errors when starting the program. This one was terribly difficult to trace; thanks a lot to all who sent me email about the problem, and I do apologize!
- The Import/Export module slightly modified; updated to version 1.2 (will now properly import CSV files which do not quote fields containing spaces)
- Version 1.10
23 Jan 2001:
- Version 1.0 is here! PhoneDeck is no longer in beta. A big Thanks to everyone who downloaded the program and sent me bug reports or feature requests. I hope you will now enjoy PhoneDeck even more. Jusding by some emails I have received, this has a chance of being one of the best freeware addressbook programs for Windows (I think)!
- Important! Language files (*.LNG) must now be stored in a directory called "LNG" below the directory where PhoneDeck is installed. Typically, the full directory name is "C:\Program Files\PhoneDeck\LNG". This directory is now created by the installer. If the LNG directory does not exist, PhoneDeck looks for language files in its own directory, but please do not rely on this behavior. If you are using a language file and it is currently located elsewhere, please MOVE IT to the "\LNG" subfolder under the directory where the file phonedeck.exe resides.
- Bug fixes: eliminated the error message when the Find function was used with no Categories selected.
- Version 1.0 FINAL RELEASE
17 Jan 2001:
- Minor fixes, while I'm putting the finishing touches on the Import/Export module (not YET available)
- Changed some keyboard shortcuts to more mnemonic values (sorry! but they're better now.)
- Added a function to "tag" addresses. Press F7 to show the checkboxes, then preff Ctrl+T (or backslash) to tag or untag addresses. This will be primarily useful to only export addresses which are tagged.
- Help file updated and expanded; please see the "Keyboard reference" and "Useful tips" topics. Also, the INI file is now documented (especially the INI settings that cannot be modified in Options dialog box).
- Version 0.99 Beta J
14 Jan 2001:
- Minor fixes
- Additions to the Help file (all program options are now fully documented)
- Version 0.99 Beta I
11 Jan 2001:
- Fixed a severe bug that caused a big, bad Access Violation error on opening the "Categories and Icons..." dialog box.
- PhoneDeck now uses Mike Lischke's TreeNT component with plenty of fixes over Borland's standard TreeView control, and some additional advanced fetaures which will be utilized in later versions of the program. For now, the change means you can modify the background color of the tree panel (before you could only set the background color of the list panel)
- Several minor bug fixes
- Version 0.99 Beta H
25 Dec 2000:
- Added an option which allows you to prevent "Locked" addresses from being modified in any way (in addition to preventing them from being deleted, which works as before).dded "Bold flag" as address property: set this to ON (Ctrl+B) to display the address name in the tree panel with bold font. (Useful for making selected addresses stand out in a large list!)
- Added an option to the "Merge action" dialog box, which allows you to prevent the merge process from modifying a duplicate address, if the address that exists in the address book is Locked (the new address will be added to the address book, rather than replacing the address which was Locked).
- Reorganized the Options dialog box to give it a more logical structure
- Version 0.99 Beta G
23 Dec 2000:
- Added ability to merge address books. You can import into currently open addressbook all addresses from another PhoneDeck file. See "Merge with file" command on the "File" menu.
- Added ability to perform certain functions "globally", i.e. on many addresses at a time. The functions that can be performed this way include deleting addresses, locking and unlocking, changing the Note text and changing the assigned category. See "Global modification" command on the "Address" menu.
- Added the Help file - finally! (It's rudimentary, but will provide all the information you need to start using the program).
- Version 0.99 Beta F
18 Dec 2000:
- Categories and their associated icons are now fully customizable. (See "Icons and categories" under the Tools menu.)
- Added "Copy" menu item under "Action" menu
- You can now use hotkeys to switch quickly between panels in the main window:
- Ctrl+1 : switch focus to Tree View panel
- Ctrl+2 : switch focus to List View panel
- Ctrl+3 : switch focus to Memo panel (list view)
- Ctrl+4 : switch focus to Tabbed View panel
- Ctrl+5 : switch focus to Category combo
- Toggling the "Given name first" option is now much more efficient, since it no longer requires reloading the address book file.
- Behavior of the "Category icons in tree" option changed: since categories and icons can be customized now, the "simple" set of icons has been removed. When the option is set to OFF, no icons are displayed in the tree panel at all (before, it was not possible to turn those icons off entirely). The option is also available as "Show icons in tree" under the View menu.
- Fixed typos in several menus and dialogs
- Version 0.99 Beta A
11 Nov 2000:
- Minor cosmetic fixes; "Copy" button added to toolbar
- Version 0.98 Beta D
31 Oct 2000:
- Minor cosmetic fixes
- Version 0.98 Beta B
25 July 2000:
- Fixed severe bug which caused dates to be dropped from entries
- Fixed severe (and silly) bug with Quick Email feature choosing the wrong address when activated
- Many minor fixes
- Version 0.93 Beta.
21 July 2000:
- Completely changed the toolbar, because it misbehaved
on some versions of Windows. The downside is that the
new alphabet index toolbar will not wrap. It can be moved,
hoever, and rigyht where the main toolbar sits on top.
- Added fancy Office-like buttons for quick access to the
Quick Dial and Quick Email functions.
- It was impossible to send email using the Quick Email
dialog box - Fixed.
- Many small fixes.
- Version 0.92 Beta.
19 July 2000:
- Added history to the Title field. Up to 12 last-added titles
are remembered. This makes it possible to use the titles in
your own language by adding to or replacing the predefiend
titles.
- Names of the address entry fields can now be localized for
your language of choice. This means you can translate such
field names as "First name", "Company", "Zip code", "State",
"Anniversary" and others, using whatever equivalents you wish
in your own language. To find out how to do this, please see
file LANGUAGE.TXT distributed with the program.
Many thanks to Andreas Aumayr for suggesting these additions.
- Version number is now 0.91 Beta
